Introduction:Total Defence consists of five aspects namely : Psychological Defence,Social
Defence,Economic Defence,Civil Defence,Military Defence.
Psychological Defence
Psychological Defence is about the citizen's love and dedication to our nation : Singapore .
What is Psychological Defence then , you might ask ? It is to overcome obstacles in life,show patriotism , loyalty and the will power to stand up. With a strong Psychological Defence , we will be able to overcome difficulties facing our country.
Social Defence
Since Singapore is a multi-racial and religion country , Social Defence is about keeping our social ties and friendship with different races strong. We have to maintain Racial Harmony even if we Singaporeans are separated by race , language and religion . It also means to show care and concern for each other , as shown when we celebrate Racial Harmony Day , where different races come together to celebrate . If we do not maintain religious peace , history will repeat itself like the 1964 Racial Riots .
Economic Defence
If a war was to happen , will the economy collapse ? Will the industry also collapse ? With Economic Defence , this will not happen. The Singapore Government is far-sighted , and it has organised the country in such a way that this will not happen. Factories and business will continue working even in times of emergency. Economic Defence also requires good attitude towards work and a constant upgrading of your skills . It helps Singapore's economy to stay ahead of the competition amongst countries.
Civil Defence
Civil Defence provides the public with basic necessities and safety needs during times of emergency , to ensure that the public can live their lives normally . This involves training by both the public and the SCDF . The aim is to train the public in case of emergency like basic survival and protection. The SCDF host events to train the public . An example would be : Emergency Preparedness Day . Based on experience , we young cadets participated in a evacuation drill . Military Defence
Our army , the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) , are well prepared in a event of an invasion. Military Defence refers to this act . Military Defence is the responsibility of training and recruiting a first-class army and also needs our weapons technology to meet the requirements of a first-class army . Military Defence is required to protect our country and not repeat history during the Japanese Invasion .
